Role Profile

To support the BI manager in implementing and maintaining an effective Business Intelligence service. Responsible for creating and maintaining both internal and client facing business intelligence systems and reports, in conjunction with other BI team members and internal and external stakeholders, that fit with BI strategy and are properly supported.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Deliver BI Solutions

  1. Ensure that all reports are accurate and timely - defining control systems and documentation to allow for efficiencies and standardisation to be improved.

  2. Produce new solutions in line with the established policies and work instructions.

  3. To provide well designed and aesthetically pleasing result sets that bring the data alive via Data Dashboards and interactive pivot-table style controls.

  4. Ensure that solutions are produced in a predictable way that is easy to support.

  5. To produce results in the most economical way possible, even when this would eschew the use of newer techniques and technologies.

  6. To utilise the standard toolset to ensure that work is:

    1. Properly planned

    2. Logged and time recorded

    3. Checked in to Source Control and kept safe and secure

    4. Properly documented and structured

    5. Keep the Head of Business Intelligence appraised at all times on progress against plans, including an update on schedule of tasks and priorities.

Qualifications & Experience

  1. SQL Server Reporting Services;

  2. Microsoft SQL Server (2005+);

  3. SQL Language;

  4. Web based BI Reporting and Dashboard tools;

  5. SQL Server ETL tools (SSIS);

  6. MDX Queries;

  7. An end-user tool to enable interaction with Data Cubes and BI datasets (e.g. Microsoft Excel 2007+, LogiXML, InetSoft, GrapeCity ActiveAnalysis etc.);

  8. Sharepoint, MOSS;

  9. Microsoft Office 2003+;

  10. Developing and maintaining objects within OLAP Data Warehouses;

  11. ETL (Electronic Transform and Load);

  12. Report writing and automation;

  13. Multi-dimensional analysis of complex datasets using data cubes;

  14. Working with a broad range of stakeholders at all levels in the business; and

  15. Promoting the concepts of Business Intelligence to a "green-field site" (i.e. a company that currently has limited exposure to B.I.).
