Infrastructure & Technical Support Specialist / Wakefield / £33,000 - £37,000 per annum + uplift for on-call

Access IT Recruitment PLC are working with the regional branch of a large public-sector body to find an Infrastructure Support Specialist to join their team. The successful candidate will work within the Infrastructure Team to develop, manage and implement the organisations infrastructure systems.

Based in Wakefield, they have a strong team with many talented people and are looking for a new member of the team who will proactively manage the technical environment to ensure they have maximum availability and efficient operation.

You will be responsible to the Infrastructure and Voice Communications Manager, and you will develop working relationships with colleagues within the organisation and other third-party organisations.

You must be able to investigate complex technical issues and enquiries, providing assistance and advice as required, and keep abreast of industry developments, providing IM&T service advice to inform strategic business planning. The post holder will also be required to work collaboratively within the ICT teams and support the design and implementation of new systems.

The organisation run a 24/7 365 business critical infrastructure, meaning that the candidate will be part of an on-call rota shared by the whole infrastructure team. This is either 1 day in every 3 weeks, or 1 day in every 4 weeks, and will be supported by a salary uplift of 4.5% or 9.5% respectively. Most on-call work will be completed remotely from home.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage the IT infrastructure providing design, configuration and 3rd line support.

  • Advise on new infrastructure and help to manage 3rd party suppliers.

  • Ensure conformance to ITIL best practice.

  • Support and participate in on-call requirements, both now and in the future.

  • Implement any agreed changes to improve the delivery and resilience of the ICT services.

  • Adopt a polite, professional and respectful manor at all times.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Networking experience (CCNA qualification, routing and switching)

  • Server technology (Windows, VMWare)

  • Previous experience working in an IT infrastructure support role

  • Extensive knowledge of infrastructure management, design and technical IT support

  • Evidence of continuous development of skills

  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer & ITIL Foundation - desirable

  • Experience of VoIP, converging networks and a variety of backup methodologies - desirable
