A leading Gatwick based Aircraft Connectivity Specialist is offering the opportunity for a Linux / Unix Systems Administrator to join the team.

About the role: Our InFlight Entertainment (IFE) Team is in a very exciting period of growth and seeks a dynamic and energetic individual to join its team.

The successful candidate will be part of the team developing and maintaining IFE solutions and their supporting Infrastructure, will have experience of working in a very hands-on role and the chance to progress as the business grows.

In this key role, you will be responsible for Linux based air and ground systems as well as aircraft satellite connectivity systems. You will be involved in the development, integration, deployment and support of our entertainment and connectivity solutions. The candidate must be able to work as part of a technical team and be a team player

Responsibilities * Build, maintain and administer Linux based systems for the onboard and ground based components of the product line * Deploy and integrate application components to onboard servers * Component build automation, version control and documentation. * OS customisation, device driver compilation, control scripts development, and systems debugging * Build, configure and maintain Test and Development environments. * Use automated build tools (vagrant, ansible, kickstart etc) to ensure deployed components are built and delivered as per specification * Assisting development teams by handling day to day server and system administration * Provide technical support and engineering for a range of Linux based systems both physical and virtual (VMWare and LXC) * Troubleshoot challenging issues with the server environments and provide recommendations for optimal performance and enhancement * Research, analyse and identify ongoing improvements in existing tools and procedures * Liaise with project stakeholders, both internal and external, to ensure that deliverables from other teams are well specified and delivered correctly and on time. * Adhere to sound engineering practices and ISO procedures, championing continuous improvements * Manage tasks using workflow tools (JIRA, Rally, Confluence) * Provide support and collaboration with other System Engineers, developers, project leads, support co-ordinators and 3rd party hosting providers * Represent the company professionally in both client and team situations

Essential Skills and Experience: * Proven experience in a technical role with at least demonstrable experience with Debian and/or CentOS system build, configuration and administration * Specific experience in the following areas: * Linux virtualisation - KVM/Containers * Linux Security - IPtables/SELinux * Working experience with at least one of the following high level languages; Bash, Python, and Perl * Advanced knowledge of Automated build environments such as Vagrant & Ansible * Linux kernel concepts, device drivers * Experience utilising virtualization and cloud technologies (VMWare, AWS) * Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, and keen understanding on networking essentials and current Internet technologies * Extensive experience of designing, implementing and managing technical environments *Demonstrated ability to achieve successful outcomes in handling difficult situations and work with various customers and levels of management * Analytical and troubleshooting skills * Shows initiative and acts independently to resolve problems * Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on projects to completion

Desirable skills * Knowledge of Satellite Communications especially with regard to Aircraft systems is desirable. * Aviation Industry experience * Aircraft Hardware, Experience with aircraft system integration - A429, STC, A615 data loader is a plus
